The National Trust (Knightshayes Garden) is the recipient of the Devon Gardens Trust Award which acknowledges excellence and innovation in an historic landscape in Devon.

The DGT acknowledges the innovative use and management of the restored Knightshayes kitchen garden beyond traditional production by:

*addressing the national shortfall in organic seed production of certain vegetables

*by the use of green manure leys to maintain soil fertility while managing them by mowing with battery-operated lawnmowers and subsequent reduction in carbon use

*by testing the theory of the suppression of bindweed by planting Tagetes.
