Devon has a strong tradition of owners designing their own landscapes and gardens, for example the Fortescues at Castle Hill and the Rolles at Bicton, often borrowing ideas from other country estates in the 'spirit of the age'.  However, there are a large number of well-known and influential designers who have worked on the historic landscapes of Devon, and these include:
