THE MAIN ACHIEVEMENTS OF THE TRUST SINCE IT WAS FOUNDED IN 1988
Research on the history of Devon parks and gardens, especially in the Devon Record Office and Westcountry Studies Library.
Recording on the ground over 200 Devon parks and gardens and collecting information on over 100 more.
Developing a means of recording exceptional ornamental trees, initially using cedars.
Actively opposing developments which threatened Devon gardens; including appearing at public enquiries e.g. Castle Hill (South Molton), Castle Tor (Torquay), Lindridge Park (Newton Abbot).
Being recognised by English Heritage, Local Authorities at all levels, and the Garden History Society, as an authority to be consulted.
Holding seminars and conferences on all aspects of the Trust's work in order to appeal to and communicate with the widest possible audience e.g. 'Design 2000', garden archaeology, garden buildings.
Publication of major books on Devon garden history. (See 'Publications' page).
Hosting the annual conference of the Association of Gardens Trusts at Dartington in 1995.
Practical help at various sites e.g. Endsleigh rose and wisteria walk, Langdon Court formal garden.
Grants for projects e.g. Gazebo at RHS Rosemoor; garden at 21, The Mint, Exeter.
Queen's Jubilee Award for school gardens. 'Green Challenge' for students and careers teachers.
