A talk by Helen Whitmore and Judy Walton
Why was so much care taken in the design and appearance of the landscapes and gardens surrounding the buildings of Devon’s lunatic asylums? DGT members Helen Whitmore and Judy Walton have been exploring how landscape was crucial in the care of patients in the nineteenth century, the treatment ideas that flourished in Victorian times, and what has happened to those asylum landscapes since.
