AGT Southwest Region Education Meeting 2014

PRELIMINARY INFORMATION (October 2013)

Theme:        Working in Partnership

When:         Wednesday 26th February 2014

Where:        Bicton EaRTH Centre, East Devon

Introduction

Over the last few years, achieving our education aims within Devon has become more difficult.  With an increasing number of agencies wanting time with teachers, and fewer volunteers prepared to visit schools to offer advice and other forms of assistance, it became obvious that some changes had to be made.

In 2012, the DGT joined the “Growing Devon Schools Partnership” (GDSP) with members of the Trust taking roles with the Steering Group.  GDSP is a multi-agency county partnership, which we believe is the first in the country.  The GDSP has begun to offer services to the school community, involving providers, teachers, TAs, governors, pupils and parents, starting with courses for teachers.  DGT will continue to provide advice and mentoring for schools and financial assistance for equipment and plants, but operating within the Partnership.

The 2014 AGT SW Education Meeting will describe the origins of the partnership, how the partnership operates and the key role that County Gardens Trusts can play in the establishment and operation of such schemes.
